Storytelling is one of the most powerful tools we have to connect with others and get a message across, yet many of us have never been trained in it. This talk will take participants on a journey, from understanding how our brains respond to stories, to learning how to develop a strong story using The 6-Step Story Planning Template©. Whether participants have an upcoming presentation, are creating a video or are developing a narrative to describe the impact of their work to others, everyone will come out a better storyteller.

In this workshop, participants will:

• Discuss why stories matter in research
  Hear a live story and analyze it as a group
  Learn the four ingredients of a compelling story
  Apply a story structure to their own work

Skills for Research Impact (SRIS) is a workshop series offered during the fall and winter semesters at the University of Guelph. Faculty, research staff, graduate students and anyone interested in enhancing the impact of their research are invited to participate.

SRIS offers specialized training in knowledge mobilization (KMb) and research impact, with practical, interactive sessions designed to help researchers build deeper KMb skills and apply them to their research.
