The College of Biological Science (CBS) is a world-renowned academic faculty dedicated to expanding our understanding of life, from DNA to cells to complex ecosystems, and the only faculty in Canada solely dedicated to the biological sciences.

CBS produces innovative, cutting-edge research in a student-centred learning environment. Our unique constellation of infrastructure, institutes, facilities and research stations enable interdisciplinary partnerships and collaboration that lead to impactful research, scholarship and teaching opportunities.

CBS is home to about 100 full-time faculty and 50 full-time staff. The college offers 12 undergraduate and 13 graduate degree programs across three departments: Human Health Sciences, Integrative Biology, and Molecular and Cellular Biology. Nearly 6,000 undergraduate students, 400 graduate students, and many thousands of engaged alumni are members of the vibrant CBS community.

The University of Guelph is one of the top 150 universities for Life Sciences in the world, according the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

Human Health Sciences

The Department of Human Health Sciences conducts research on aging, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, nutrition, exercise, biomechanics, and metabolism, among other topics. The department offers undergraduate majors in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences, Human Kinetics, Bio-Medical Sciences, and Neuroscience, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences.

Integrative Biology

The Department of Integrative Biology consists of faculty who lead research in three overlapping themes, including comparative animal physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology. The department offers undergraduate majors in Ecology, Marine and Freshwater Biology, Wildlife Biology and Conservation, and Zoology, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Integrative Biology and a Master of Wildlife Biology.

Molecular and Cellular Biology

Faculty in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology direct research programs that involve multidisciplinary approaches to novel biological questions at the level of molecules to cells. The department offers undergraduate majors in Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Neuroscience, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in Molecular and Cellular Biology.
