Position Description:

The Department of Integrative Biology (http://www.uoguelph.ca/ib/) seeks to appoint a tenure­-track faculty member in Computational Biology with emphasis on Bioinformatics. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in developing and applying computational tools, algorithms and approaches to bioinformatics research: Through the development of new computational tools in bioinformatics, the successful candidate will work collaboratively with an established team of researchers whose collective goal is to establish a cutting-edge program to identify genomic and population responses to environmental stressors. Particular emphasis is placed on development and application of computational tools, algorithms and approaches for acquiring, storing, organizing, archiving, analyzing, and visualizing data in efficient and innovative ways.

This position will be supported, in part, by the University of Guelph's $76.7 million Food from Thought initiative, funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund. The goal of this project is to exponentially increase our ability to leverage big data for the benefit of food production and biodiversity at global, landscape and micro scales of research and innovation through strong multidisciplinary research. The Food from Thought initiative will integrate and strengthen the University's data management and analysis capabilities across our facilities and our partners, and better support and incubate faculty and student innovations. The successful candidate will have demonstrated commitment and skills to contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department of Integrative Biology as well as graduate courses in the bioinformatics graduate program in computational genomics and/or systems biology. Of equal importance will be the potential to collaborate with a wide variety of other faculty members, graduate students and staff as well as providing effective leadership and strong participation in the Food from Thought research program.
