Position Description:

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for four (4) contractually-limited (July 2018 to May 2019) College Professors (University of Guelph Faculty Association (UGFA), Unit 2) in Equine Care and Management. Three (3) College Professors will be teaching at the Regional Equine and Agricultural Centre of Huron (REACH) in Clinton while one (1) College Professor will be located at the Ridgetown Campus in Ridgetown.

Reporting to the of the Associate Director Academic, the College Professors will be responsible for teaching courses to students in the Equine Care and Management Diploma program and the Performance Horse Handler Certificate program. Successful candidates will be experienced equine professionals. They will be expected to teach a variety of topics to help students develop proficiency in the equine industry. Specific topics include: anatomy, physiology, reproduction, nutrition, conditioning, health, and management. The incumbents will be responsible for development, preparation and delivery of appropriate course materials; evaluation of student progress; and individual academic consultations with students. In addition, the College Professors will be involved in student recruitment/promotion, curricular and program development, and other pedagogical activities.

Requirements for the position include a Masters or Doctoral degree in a related field (eg animal biology, animal biosciences, etc), as well as a minimum of three years of work experience in the equine industry. However, candidates with a Baccalaureate degree with additional work experience in the equine industry may be considered. The successful candidates will have experience teaching at the post-secondary level, proven oral and written communication skills, advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications, as well as a record of diplomacy and excellent teamwork. Ability to handle horses with different backgrounds and temperaments is also a requirement.
