College: College of Arts

Department: School of Fine Art and Music

Deadline: June 27, 2018
Please reference AD #18-41

Position Description:

The School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph seeks an accomplished, active artist with expertise in a full range of printmaking techniques and processes to teach printmaking courses in the Studio Art BA program (August 1, 2018 – August 1, 2019), at the rank of Assistant Professor, contractually limited appointment.

The relationship between analog and digital technologies is a concern common to much contemporary art and contemporary art education—nowhere more so than in the area of two-dimensional image reproduction. The Studio Program at the University of Guelph possesses one of the best traditional printmaking facilities in the province of Ontario. Our current aim is to more fully integrate these resources within a pedagogical environment that delivers practical and theoretical training in digital tools and media. Therefore, the successful applicant will also have experience in utilizing digital technologies in image production.

The successful candidate will be an artist holding an MFA or equivalent in Studio Art, with a practical knowledge of traditional printmaking techniques (intaglio, etching, lithography, photo-lithography and silkscreen) an established practice that incorporates the digital print; a strong interest in developing the crossover of these areas; and a demonstrated background in the historical and theoretical foundations of reprographic technologies. Relevant teaching experience at the university level is preferred.

The deadline for applications is June 27, 2018. Letters of application and digital files of application materials should be addressed to:

Dr. Sally Hickson, Director
c/o Nicola Ferguson, Administrative Secretary
School of Fine Art & Music

All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.

You are not required to disclose these obligations in the hiring process.
