Issues of Corporate Influence Focus of Lecture

October 24, 2005 - News Release

A medical researcher who was at the middle of a scandal that arose while she was doing drug research in Toronto in the 1990s will give a free public lecture Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in Peter Clark Hall.

Dr. Nancy Olivieri drew attention to issues surrounding corporate funding when she released her research on a new drug product over the objections of the company that partially funded her research. She will speak about corporate influence on university campuses and in health care and education.

Her presentation is sponsored by Students Against Corporate Control and the Central Student Association. She will be introduced by U of G philosophy professor John McMurtry, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
