designing the future
Landscape architecture requires an understanding of people, land and
the fit between them. Using creativity and innovation, landscape architects
aim to meet the needs of people while improving the environment. They
design memorable places that are attractive, functional and sustainable
and that affect the way our cities, suburbs, rural and wilderness areas
are planned, designed and managed. If you have creative abilities and
are interested in problem-solving and communication, then consider studying
landscape architecture at the University of Guelph .
Landscape Architecture Programs
The University of Guelph offers
a four year (eight semester) professional undergraduate program leading
to the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) degree and a three year
(six semester) professional graduate program, leading to the Master
of Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree. Landscape Architecture is one
of several departments that contribute to the University of Guelph 's
PhD in Rural Studies.

Background
The University of Guelph is
internationally recognized as a centre of landscape architecture education.
Our BLA program, established in 1964, and our MLA program, established
in 1973, are among the oldest professional programs in Canada .
We have approximately 250 students enrolled in our degree programs.
Students come from across Canada and many regions of the world. Our
active international exchange programs attract individuals with diverse
backgrounds and provide the opportunity for our students to study and
travel abroad.
The Landscape Architecture faculty
bring a broad range of experiences to the learning environment at Guelph.
They hold degrees in landscape architecture and many related fields
and have practiced in a variety of settings. Our faculty are recognized
internationally for their contributions to teaching, research, writing,
practice and professional service.
The BLA and the MLA programs are fully
accredited by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects in association
with the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board of the United States.
Our graduates become licensed professionals when they have earned a
professional degree, interned for two years, and completed an examination.
Atmosphere
The faculty and students in Landscape Architecture are
a group of creative, concerned and intensively involved individuals
who enjoy the opportunity to work and learn together. We provide comfortable
studios and classrooms, as well as computing and computer imaging facilities.
Nearby communities and rural landscapes provide the context for many
studio projects. Toronto, a city of three million people, is approximately
one hour from Guelph and frequently serves as a setting for studying
urban issues. We maintain strong ties to practicing professionals and
professional associations.
