Applying for Readmission after being Required to Withdraw
Understanding Your Academic Standing
- If you have been required to withdraw due to your academic performance, you must sit out for two semesters. This is called a rustication period, and it starts the semester following the decision.
- Undergraduate Academic Calendar, VIII. Undergraduate Degree Regulations and Procedures, Withdrawal
Requirements for Readmission
If you intend to resume studies at the University of Guelph following the rustication period of two semesters, you will be required to apply for readmission. Requirements for readmission vary by program.
To be considered for readmission, you must also complete acceptable academic upgrading for your program of interest. Readmission is not guaranteed, and presenting the minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission.
Note: If you’ve been required to withdraw more than once, please contact the appropriate Admission Counsellor for more information.

Looking to strengthen your academic skills?
UNIV*1000 is a great option for students who have been Required to Withdraw and who are preparing to return with a stronger foundation. The course supports may support your readiness for university study by strengthening key academic skills, including time management, effective study strategies, note-taking, critical reading, and exam preparation. You will also develop goal-setting and help-seeking strategies by learning how to access appropriate campus supports and create a clear plan for ongoing academic improvement.
If you have questions about your academic upgrading plans, please contact the appropriate Admission Counsellor.
How to Apply
