1) 0.5 mL CSF and/or 2) 2 mL EDTA unspun whole blood. Serum is not an acceptable sample. 3) Biopsy, swab or exudate of infected area for fungus.

This test is sent to an external laboratory. Fungal breakout panel includes: Aspergillus fumigatus, Candida albicans, Cryptococcus neoformans v. neoformans, Microsporum canis, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Coccidioides immitis/posadasii.
