Specimen Type/Volume

Submit 3 EDTA blood tubes (2 mL), 2 serum (1 mL) and air-dried, labelled, peripheral blood smear.

Ship in insulated container, no freezer packs required. Do not refrigerate smears.

Collection Protocol

Submit a prepared, air-dried blood smear along with the EDTA whole blood samples. Serum should be collected into a red-top vacutainer; avoid hemolysis. Allow the sample to clot. Centrifuge the sample; separate the serum from the cells as soon as possible and transfer to a leakproof, labelled tube. Volume lower than 1 ml could result in false negative Heartworm test.

Includes testing for CBC and biochemistry profile, heartworm antigen and antibodies to Ehrlichia canis, E. ewingii, Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Borrelia burgdorferi, Anaplasma platys, Mycoplasma haemocanis and M. haematoparvum, Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Brucella canis.
