Research conducted by Economics and Finance PhD student Michael Batu is currently featured in an article for the University of Guelph's online publication at Guelph.  In the article, Batu discusses the common practice among foreign workers of sending remittance money back home to their families abroad.  Batu looks at the economic effects, for both the sender and receiver of the remittance money, resulting from this practice.  According to Batu, remittances have the potential to boost family income and the GDP of developing countries, however this practice can also carry potential drawbacks.
