The athletics brand voice aligns with the identity of the U of G while also reflecting its distinct personality and integral role within the institution.

Gryphon or Gryphons?

“Gryphon” and “Gryphons” are both utilized within our brand but have specific use cases. This usage has been somewhat inconsistent over our 60-year history, but as of March 2025, all communications will align with the following.

We are the Guelph Gryphons, and the “s” should be used whenever referencing our community (i.e. The Guelph Gryphons are facing off against the Western Mustangs). The “s” should be removed when “Gryphon” or “Guelph Gryphon” can be used as a descriptor (i.e. Guelph Gryphon Football, Gryphon Hall of Fame, etc).

This standard is reflected in all provided brand assets.
