The 2025 Empirical and Theoretical Symposium for Canadian Marketing Strategy
June 5-6, 2025 Department of Marketing and Consumer Studies, Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, University of Guelph
Call For Papers
Faculty and Ph.D. students in Canadian Universities are invited to present their best work at the 10th Empirical and Theoretical (ET) Symposium for Canadian Marketing Strategy to be held at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics, University of Guelph in Guelph, Ontario. The Symposium is made possible by the generous grant from the Research Office at the Lang School, and support from the Marketing Analytics Centre.

The conference will run over two days. On Thursday, June 5, there will be a panel (topic and panelists TBA) followed by a reception. On Friday, June 6, there will be a full day of presentations and poster sessions followed by a dinner and award ceremonies. We are working to firm up the details.
As always, the focus of the conference will be on high-quality original quantitative scholarly research on consumer and firm level marketing strategy questions. We also welcome quantitative marketing research that could have high impact on real-world practices of non-profit businesses, policy, and governments.
There will be two competitive tracks – paper presentations, and posters. Each of the selected paper presentations will feature a discussant. Ph.D. students are encouraged to present their research in the poster session. There will be awards for the “Best Poster” and “Runner-up” at the end of the symposium.
The key aims of the symposium are to (a) help increase the profile, quality, and capacity of Canadian quantitative scholarly research on consumer and firm level marketing strategy, and (b) build informal and formal network connections among Canadian faculty and doctoral students in this field.
We invite extended abstracts (~ 1500 words max) for paper presentations. For posters only, please submit an abstract (~ 500 words max). The presentations will be chosen based upon, 1) the relevance of work, 2) the perceived quality of the abstract, 3) the desire to have a variety of scholars, schools, and areas of the country represented.
Please email the abstract in PDF to ETSYM25@uoguelph.ca
Please list all authors with their affiliations on the abstract and mark the presenting author.
Indicate one of the following in the subject line of your email:
1. Abstract Submission for Presentation Track; or
2. Abstract Submission for Poster Session
When submitting your extended abstract for the presentation track please indicate if you would be willing to present a poster if there is no room in the schedule for a full presentation.
We strongly encourage any Ph.D. students who plan to attend to at least submit a poster to get feedback on their work and raise their profile in the field. Poster specifications are 2' x 3', landscape.
The deadline for submissions is February 7th, 2025, and we will notify you of acceptance by February 28. For those selected for the presentation, a full copy of your paper is eventually required, to share with a discussant, by May 8, 2025.
Information on registration, including fees, dates and other details will be coming soon! Registration for Ph.D. students will be free.
