Dr. Hegab is an Assistant Professor and Professional Engineer with over 15 years of experience in advanced manufacturing, process optimization, and data-driven engineering. Dr. Hegab focuses on improving manufacturing performance, product quality, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency through process monitoring, analytics, modelling, simulation, optimization, and digitalization. Dr. Hegab’s expertise includes advanced manufacturing, data-driven performance improvement, process and tool condition monitoring, predictive maintenance, quality engineering, continuous improvement, sustainable manufacturing, and resource optimization. Dr. Hegab translates engineering research into practical solutions that improve reliability, reduce losses, strengthen process control, and deliver measurable improvements in quality, productivity, and sustainability. Through the Sustainable Manufacturing & Process Innovation Lab (SMPIL) at the University of Guelph, Dr. Hegab works with students, researchers, and industry partners to address manufacturing challenges through practical engineering methods, measurable results, and a clear path from research to implementation. Dr. Hegab also develops and delivers industry-focused training in quality engineering, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making.

Dr. Hegab's industry collaborations are designed around specific manufacturing challenges and may include quality improvement and defect reduction, predictive maintenance and equipment reliability, process and production optimization, manufacturing data analytics, sustainable manufacturing, and digital decision-support.
Dr. Hegab works with industry partners to understand operational challenges, develop appropriate analytical and engineering methods, and validate solutions using realistic manufacturing data and conditions. This approach allows research outcomes to move beyond theoretical development toward practical implementation and measurable industrial impact.
Professional Education and Industry Knowledge Transfer
Dr. Hegab also supports industry through Quality Engineering professional education. A sequence of four stackable micro-credentials has been developed, with each credential approximately 15–20 hours in duration and designed to provide practical tools that professionals can apply directly in the workplace. The sequence covers foundational quality methods, quality control and risk, advanced quality systems, and an applied capstone experience.
