X--Degree Programs
Department of Music, College of Arts.
The Department of Music offers courses in music history, theory, ethnomusicology, composition, and performance. Many courses are open to all students, while others require a knowledge of the rudiments of musical notation or other prerequisites. Students are urged to plan their program in consultation with a departmental advisor. Music programs allow considerable flexibility for students to elect one or more areas of interest, such as individual study on an instrument, performing in vocal or instrumental ensembles, specialized historical or theoretical study, directed readings, or an independent project. Physics of Music (67-109) is strongly recommended for all Music students and will count as one of the courses for the B.A. math/science requirement.
Applied Music 67-150 and67-151 are open to all students by audition. Students who wish to continue in Applied Music must be enrolled in a Music program: general program, area of concentration; honours program, major or minor.
