Bachelor of Arts

Entrance Awards

Alma Mater Scholarships in the B.A. Program

These scholarships are offered by the Alma Mater Fund Advisory Council.

Qualifications: Students entering the first semester level of the B.A. program in the Fall.
Amount: Two scholarships of $750.

Honours Mathematics or Honours Statistics Scholarship
Qualifications: Student entering the first semester level of the B.A. program who declares the intention to pursue an honours program in Mathematics or Statistics. The scholarship will be made in two instalments of $250 in each of the student's first two semesters with the second instalment to be conditional upon the student obtaining an average of 80% in the first semester.
Amount: $500.

Frederick Hung Memorial Award

The colleagues and family of the late Prof. Frederick Hung make available an entrance award to encourage students to major in Geography.

Qualifications: Student entering the Bachelor of Arts degree program directly from high school. The award will be given to the student who has achieved the highest mark in grade 13 Geography or its equivalent and at least an 80% average overall.
Amount: $600.

OAC Alumni Foundation Entrance Scholarships

The award will be made in 2 instalments of $1,200 payable after registration in each of the 1st, and 3rd semester levels. To maintain the scholarship, a recipient must continue with satisfactory academic standing in a degree program in the Ontario Agricultural College. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by September 30.

Qualifications: OAC students entering the B.L.A., B.Sc.(Agr.), B.A., B.Sc., or B.Comm. programs who have an admission average in excess of 80%. Participation in extracurricular activities, community activities and demonstrated leadership skills will also be considered.
Amount: Five scholarships of $2,400.

John Vanderkamp Memorial Scholarship

Family, friends and colleagues of John Vanderkamp, former Chair of the Department of Economics, respected Dean of the College of Social Science (1981-1991), and an enthusiastic promoter of liberal education as encompassed in the Akademia program, have established two memorial scholarships for academically outstanding students in the Akademia program. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by June 30.

Qualifications: The recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic standing, significant involvement in extracurricular activities, and two reference letters from counsellors, teachers or mentors.
Amount: Two memorial scholarships of $500. The awards are made in two instalments of $250 payable after registration in the 1st and 2nd semesters.

In-Course Awards

Akademia Appreciation Award

Available to students who have completed semester 2 of the Akademia program.

Qualifications: The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic performance and contributions to extracurricular activities of the Akademia program. The recipient must have achieved a 70% average in the courses for completion of the Akademia program.
Semester: 2.
Amount: $100 annually.

Alma Mater B.A. In-Course Scholarships
Qualifications: Students enrolled in the B.A. program who have completed 5 semester levels with high academic standing by January 1. Consideration may be given to the actual courses taken, in the case of students with widely differing programs.
Semester: 5.
Amount: Twenty scholarships of $375 each will be awarded annually.

Austrian Embassy Prizes
Qualifications: Advanced students of German who have shown excellence in the past two semesters, but need not be graduating.
Amount: Two book prizes annually.

J. M. Bell Classics Scholarship
Qualifications: Student continuing in an honours program in Classics with the highest average (80% or above) in 8 classics courses (those prefixed 24 , 48 , 61) beyond the 100 level. The award may only be held once.
Amount: $500.

Edmund C. Bovey Scholarship in Philosophy

Donated by Sandra and Joseph Rotman. The award will be made in 2 instalments of $500 payable after registration in semesters 7 and 8.

Qualifications: Awarded to the student with the highest cumulative average in Philosophy courses who has completed 6 semesters in the major honours, combined honours, or specialized honours program in Philosophy.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $1,000 annually.

Norma Bowen Memorial Scholarship in Psychology

Apply in writing by July 1 to the Chair of the Psychology Department's Undergraduate Affairs and Curriculum Committee (UACC).

Qualifications: Presented to a student with an excellent academic record in the first 5 semesters of a Psychology program. Preference will be given to "mature" students.
Semester: 5.
Amount: $300 annually.

Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation Printmaking Prize
Qualifications: Student enrolled in a printmaking course at any level who produces the most outstanding print during the semester. The prize winning print will become part of the Print Study Collection.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: $100 each semester.

Canadian Federation of University Women -- Guelph Chapter Scholarship
Qualifications: Female student registered in the Fall semester in either B.Sc.(Eng.), B.A. (College of Physical and Engineering Science) or B.Sc. (College of Physical and Engineering Science) who has the highest cumulative average. Preference will be given to a student who has graduated from a secondary school in Wellington County.
Semester: 5 or 6.
Amount: $1,465 annually.

Class of 1905 Scholarship

Scholarship was established by the graduating class of 1905. Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services, by April 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed the 6th semester level in a major in an Ontario Agricultural College department, is considered to be the most outstanding student in the class and who, through activity in all branches of college life, as well as proficiency in scholarship during the program, has done most for the college, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $150.

Class of '51 OAC Leadership Awards

Established by Year '51 OAC, on the occasion of its 45th anniversary. At the discretion of the OAC Awards Committee students may be selected before graduation. Apply by letter to the Student Federation OAC, Johnston Hall by March 1.

Qualifications: Students graduating from the degree program in a major in an OAC department who have a 70% standing in the final year of study and who have demonstrated leadership in the College or University extracurricular activities.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two awards of $1,000 annually.

Class 1955 OAC Scholarship

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Outstanding OAC degree student at the conclusion of semester 4. The recipient will have made an outstanding contribution to college life through academic proficiency and participation in extracurricular activities and can be considered to have done the most for the College, for fellow students and for personal development.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $1,400.

Class '67 OAC Centennial Scholarship

Apply to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: Student majoring in an OAC department who through activity in all branches of college life as well as scholastic achievement has made an outstanding contribution to the University.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $500 annually.

Class '76 Graduation Prize

This prize is not tenable with the Charles McGowan or the Beth Duncan Gold Medalist.

Qualifications: Outstanding graduating student majoring in an OAC department who has been active in OAC student activities while maintaining a minimum of 70% standing.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $100 annually.

College of Arts Alumni Drama Prizes
Qualifications: Drama students in the honours program entering their 7th semester, with the highest cumulative average in Drama courses.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Two prizes of $250 annually.

College of Arts Medal

The College of Arts Medal is awarded in June to the student graduating from the College of Arts in the Spring or two previous convocations with the highest cumulative average.

C.A.S.U. (College of Arts Student Union) Book Prizes

Students may win the prize only once in each department. Apply to the Chair of the Department by April 30.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the College of Arts who have completed semesters 3, 4, 5 and 6, in the B.A. program. The recipient will have attained a 70% average in their major, and have demonstrated significant volunteer participation in the social, political or cultural life of the University of Guelph.
Semester: 3, 4, 5, 6.
Amount: Book prizes of $50.

C.A.S.U. (College of Arts Student Union) Award

Apply by letter to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1 stating area of participation, dates of participation and nature of contribution. This award may be held only once.

Qualifications: Student within the College of Arts who has completed semesters 3 - 8, and who participated in the social, political and cultural life of the University.
Semester: 3 - 8.
Amount: $250.

College of Physical and Engineering Science Alumni Association Scholarships

These scholarships are applicable to Canadian students for one semester and are awarded in the Fall.

Qualifications: Students who have completed semester 4 in the previous Fall, Winter or Spring semesters and are enrolled in semester 5 or higher of a College of Physical and Engineering Science program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of a high average in courses normally taken in the 3rd and 4th semesters. Students must have been registered in at least 10 courses and a minimum 80% average is required.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Four annual scholarships in the amount of tuition fees.

College of Physical and Engineering Science Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded in the Fall.

Qualifications: Student who has completed semester 6 in the previous Fall, Winter or Spring semesters and who is enrolled in semester 7 or 8 of a College of Physical and Engineering Science program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of a high average (minimum 80% average required) in courses normally taken in semesters 5 or 6.
Semester: 7.
Amount: $200 annually.

College of Social Science Alumni Association In-Course Scholarships

These scholarships donated by the Alma Mater Fund, are presented to one full-time student (5 courses) from each of the Departments of Economics, Geography, Political Studies, Psychology, and Sociology and Anthropology. This award is not tenable with other Senate awards.

Qualifications: Students must be registered in semester 5, 6, 7 or 8 during the Fall semester. The recipient will be selected on the equal basis of high academic standing and marked qualities of student leadership.
Semester: 4, 5, 6, 7.
Amount: Five awards of $720.

Constas Prize

This scholarship is offered in memory of the late Helen Constas, by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. It will be awarded at the Spring Convocation.

Qualifications: Student who is graduating with distinction (or has graduated at the previous Winter or Fall Convocation) in a major in an honours program offered by the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and who has the highest cumulative average above 80% in Sociology and Anthropology courses.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $100 annually.

Consul General of Belgium Prize for French House

The recipient will be selected by a committee consisting of the French House Program Director, Assistant Director, North Residences, and Chair of the Department of French Studies. The award is presented at the end of the Winter semester by the Belgian Consul General.

Qualifications: Student resident in French House with good academic standing, who has made the greatest contribution to the program of the residence and to the knowledge of Francophone cultures.
Amount: A book prize awarded annually.

Credit Valley Conservation Authority Foundation Bursary

Enquiries should be made at Student Financial Services, Office of Registrarial Services.

Qualifications: Full-time student registered in the B.A. program Geography, the B.Sc. program Geography, the B.Sc. Engineering program (Water Resource Engineering), or the B.Sc. Agriculture program (Resource Management or Resource Economics) with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student who resides in a member municipality of the Credit Valley Authority Foundation.
Amount: $500 annually.

Digital Equipment of Canada Prize

Presented in May by Digital Equipment of Canada to a student selected by the College of Physical and Engineering Science Awards Committee.

Qualifications: The recipient of the award will have the highest average in Computing and Information Science courses normally taken in the 1st and 2nd semesters (27-140 and 27-180) of those students intending to proceed in an honours Computing and Information Science program.
Semester: 2.
Amount: Medal and $250.

Dimensions Prize (Art History)
Qualifications: Student completing the honours Fine Art program, specializing in Art History courses at the 300 and 400 levels.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: $100 annually.

Dimensions Prize (Studio)
Qualifications: Fine Art major with good academic standing who has submitted work to the Annual Jury Show, for a work in that show.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: $100 annually.

Essay Prize in Music

Essays should be submitted to the Chair of the Deparment by March 1.

Qualifications: Student with at least Honours standing in the Honours Music Major or Minor program for the best research paper submitted in a 300 or 400 level music course (excluding papers written for 67-4401/2).
Amount: Annual prize of $100.

"Essays in Theatre/Etudes Theatrales" Prize

Awarded in the Winter semester.

Qualifications: Student in a major or honours program in Drama with the highest cumulative average at the end of the 5th semester.
Semester: 5.
Amount: Book prize.

Faculty Prizes in Classics

The prizes are awarded to students selected by members of the Classics Section of the Department of Languages and Literatures, and by the Chair of the Department.

Qualifications: Students registered in any Classics program are eligible and the awards are based on aggregate performance in any 2 courses numbered 200 or above from Classical Studies, Greek or Latin.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: Two prizes of $100.

French Consul Prize

Selection by Faculty in the Department of French Studies.

Qualifications: Offered to a student for work in oral French.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Book.

Friends of Music Book Prize
Qualifications: Graduating B.A. student in honours Music who has received the highest cumulative average in courses offered by the Department of Music.
Semester: 8.
Amount: A book prize to the value of $100 annually.

Friends of Music In-Course Scholarship
Qualifications: Student registered in an Honours major or minor in Music. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed at least six Music courses from among those acceptable for a specialization in Music and with the highest average.
Amount: $300 annually.

Etheleen L. Fulkerson Scholarship

Professor Robert S. Fulkerson (OAC '46), a former faculty member in OAC, has endowed this annual scholarship on behalf of his wife, Etheleen. Applications must be made to the Assistant Director, Student Financial Services by April 1.

Qualifications: This award will be presented to a registered student in semester 5, 6 or 7 in the B.A. program with a major or minor in Music. Eligible students must have at least a 70% cumulative average, demonstrated interest in vocal studies (normally shown by completion of 67-251, Applied Music IV) and demonstrated financial need.
Amount: $500.

John Kenneth Galbraith Scholarship in Economics

Apply in writing to the Chair, Department of Economics by March 1.

Qualifications: Student who has completed, or is about to complete, the 5th semester level in the B.A. program, and who has declared intent to proceed in an honours program in Economics. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of high academic standing, particularly in courses in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Mathematics and Statistics and will be presented after the recipient has registered for the 7th semester level of an honours program in Economics.
Semester: 5.
Amount: $600 annually.

Geography Alumni Semester 4 Scholarship

Offered through the Alma Mater Fund by the Geography Alumni.

Qualifications: Student who has completed four semester in a major honours program in the Department of Geography. The scholarship will be awarded competitively in September of each year based on cumulative academic performance.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $350.

Geography Alumni Semester 6 Scholarship

Offered through the Alma Mater Fund by the Geography Alumni.

Qualifications: Student who has completed six semesters in a major honours program in the Department of Geography. The scholarship will be awarded competitively in September of each year based on cumulative academic performance.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $350.

German Consulate Prize

Three awards are presented in the Spring.

Qualifications: Students who are graduating from an honours program in German Studies.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Three awards.

Gold Medal in English

This gold medal is offered by the faculty of the Department of English.

Qualifications: Student who has made the highest standing on the whole of the honours work in English, providing that it is an 80% standing and completed at least 6 semesters of the program at the University of Guelph.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Gold medal.

Guelph Creative Arts Association, Gordon Couling Scholarship

Application for this scholarship is to be made by submitting a portfolio of studio work through the office of the Fine Art Department no later than the final day of classes of the Winter semester.

Qualifications: Fine Art major who has completed, or is completing, 25 courses at the time of application, who is proceeding towards an honours degree in Fine Art, and who has a cumulative average of at least 70% in all previous course attempts in Fine Art.
Semester: 6, 7, 8.
Amount: $600 annually.

Guelph Philosophical Society Book Prize
Qualifications: Student graduating during the preceding year from the Honours program in Philosophy (specialized honours, combined honours or major honours) with the highest cumulative average in his or her Philosophy courses.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Book prize.

Guelph Philosophical Society Scholarships

Application for the awards is to be made in writing to the Chair of the Department of Philosophy by the end of the first calendar month in the Fall, Winter or Spring semester.

Qualifications: Undergraduate students in a general or honours program in Philosophy who have a cumulative 70% average in all Philosophy course attempts and who demonstrate need.
Amount: Three awards of at least $200.

Gloria Guthrie Memorial Music Scholarship
Qualifications: Student graduating in honours Music who has obtained the highest average above 80% in Music courses.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $500 annually.

Heinz Jordan Memorial Scholarships

The awards will be made three times a year, one each semester.

Qualifications: Students in an honours program in Fine Art. To be eligible, a student will have an overall 80% standing in the academic and studio courses taken at the 6th semester level.
Semester: 6.
Amount: $500 each semester.

Hewlett Packard Award

An award is presented in the Fall semester.

Qualifications: Student with the highest average in semester 6 pursuing a B.Sc. or B.A. in the College of Physical and Engineering Science.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Hewlett Packard Calculator (1984 value approximately $300).

Italian Consulate Prize in Italian Studies
Qualifications: Student intending to continue the study of Italian Studies presently enrolled in 57-227 or 57-107 who shall obtain the highest standing in the course.
Amount: An annual prize of books (approximate value $20).

Andrea Laatsch Scholarship
Qualifications: Student who has high academic standing in the 2nd year of the German Studies program during the preceding calendar year and significant contributions to the University community.
Semester: 4.
Amount: $250.

Joseph N. Macerollo Award in Italian Studies
Qualifications: Student who has completed Intermediate Italian II -- 57-207, and who intends to continue studies toward a degree in the Italian Studies program.
Amount: $200.

Murdo MacKinnon Scholarships

One or more scholarships given to students completing semesters 5, 6 or 7 during the Winter semester will be considered by the College Awards Committee in consultation with the Department Chair.

Qualifications: Student(s) registered in an honours major program in the College of Arts in Music, Drama, Fine Arts, English, History, Philosophy, Languages and Literatures or French Studies with the highest cumulative average in his/her honour subject(s). Preference will be given to students who have done all of their work at the University of Guelph.
Semester: 5, 6, 7.
Amount: $500.

Jack Madden Medal in Economic History
Qualifications: Student in honours Economics at the completion of the Winter semester, or who has graduated in the previous Fall or Spring semester, who has demonstrated high academic standing at the University of Guelph.
Semester: 8.
Amount: A medal and $200 is awarded annually.

D.C. Masters Continuing Student Scholarship
Qualifications: History program student with the highest cumulative average in at least 5 history courses taken at the University of Guelph, who has completed at least 4 semesters of his/her program. Previous recipients of the award are not eligible. In cases where candidates have similar averages, preference will be given to the student with the greatest number of history courses taken at Guelph.
Semester: 4, 5, 6, 7.
Amount: $100 annually.

D.C. Masters Prize in History
Qualifications: Student completing the honours program in History (specialized honours, combined honours, or major honours) with the highest cumulative average (minimum of 80%) in history courses at the 300 and 400 levels.
Semester: 8.
Amount: $150 annually.

Mathematics Prizes

The winners will be selected annually in May from students who have completed the appropriate semester level in the previous twelve months.

Qualifications: Students in an 8 semester B.A. or B.Sc. program with Mathematics or Statistics as the major subject. One award is for the student with the highest average in courses in Mathematical Science in the 3rd and 4th semester levels. The other 2 awards will be made on the same basis to students with the highest standing in semester levels 5 and 6, and in semester levels 7 and 8. An 80% average is required.
Semester: 4, 6 and 8.
Amount: Three prizes of $400 annually.

McLean Scholarships in English

These scholarships are offered in memory of Prof. Ernest Cyrus McLean, a member of OAC from 1921 to 1960 and Chair of the Department of English from 1954 to 1960.

Qualifications: Students in a B.A. program in English who have completed semester 4 in the previous Spring, Fall or Winter semesters with a high academic standing. A cumulative 80% average in English courses is considered the minimum requirement.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Two annual scholarships of $1,000.

John F. Melby Honours Thesis Prize

Offered by members of the Department of Political Studies, colleagues and friends of Professor Melby. Application should be made to the honours undergraduate advisor after successful completion of courses 78-498 and 78-499.

Qualifications: Honours student in Political Studies, based on the honours thesis.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual prize of $100.

Aino Menning Memorial Award

Award is intended to encourage female students in piano performance.

Qualifications: Student with special ability in piano performance and high academic standing. The student must have completed 2 credits in Applied Music. All else being equal, preference will be given to a female student.
Amount: $200.

David Murray Medal in Arts

The recipient is selected by the Awards Committee of the College of Arts.

Qualifications: College of Arts nominee for the Winegard Medal.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual award of $200 and a medal.

Ellen Nilsen Memorial Award

Offered by the friends of Ellen Nilsen. Apply to the Director of the Collaborative International Development Studies Programme, College of Social Science by October 15.

Qualifications: Academically outstanding woman from a developing country who is registered at the University of Guelph and who has demonstrated a commitment to social change.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: Annual award of $500.

OAC Students' Federation Medal
Qualifications: Graduating student in an undergraduate degree program in a major in an OAC department who has been an outstanding leader in student activities at the College level throughout his or her University career.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Medal awarded annually.

Oxford University Press Canada Drama Prize
Qualifications: Student registered in the Drama major or minor who completes semester level 4 in the Winter, Spring, or Fall with the highest cumulative average in Drama courses.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Book prize.

Marlene Pike Memorial Award
Qualifications: Student majoring in Fine Art who has completed twenty-five courses, including 13-330 Sculpture II and who is judged to have made an outstanding contribution in sculpture classes as manifested in the quality of work produced as well as in the effort expended and promise shown.
Semester: 5.
Amount: $200.

Ruth and Eber Pollard Award in Canadian History

Provided by the Guelph Historical Society in recognition of Ruth and Eber Pollard's contribution as President and Vice-President, respectively, of the Society from 1973 to 1993.

Qualifications: The award is for the best essay presented by a student in 49-447 or 49-497 in Canadian History, particularly its local dimension.
Amount: Annual award of $300.

Printmaking Prize
Qualifications: Student judged to have made the outstanding academic contribution to the practice of printmaking during that semester. All students currently enrolled in a printmaking course at any level are eligible, provided that they are considered by the Printmaking Selection Committee of the Department of Fine Art to have fulfilled all workshop responsibilities.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: Cash prize of $100.

Psychology Core Awards

Given in the Fall from the Psychology Faculty Prize Fund.

Qualifications: Two students (in semesters 5, 6 or 7) who have completed the Psychology core and have achieved the highest grade average in the Psychology core courses.
Semester: 5, 6 or 7.
Amount: Annual awards of $150.

Psychology Department's Award for Academic and Extracurricular Excellence

From the Psychology Department's nominee for the Winegard Medal as forwarded to the College of Social Science Awards Committee each spring.

Semester: 8.
Amount: $150 annually.

Psychology Honours Thesis Award

Offered from the Psychology Faculty Prize Fund.

Qualifications: Student who submits the best Psychology honours thesis during the previous Fall, Winter or Spring semesters. The winning thesis is selected from nominations by thesis supervisors.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual award of $150.

Psychology Senior Honours Award
Qualifications: Honours Psychology student who has the highest grade average in the courses taken after semester 6 including those courses associated with the honours thesis.
Semester: 7 or 8.
Amount: $150.

W. S. Reid Essay Prize

In honour of W.S. Reid, Professor Emeritus.

Qualifications: Undergraduate student enrolled in the general or honours program in History who has submitted the best essay for a 400 level course in History.
Semester: 6, 7, 8.
Amount: $150 annually.

W.S. Reid Undergraduate Thesis Prize

In honour of W. S. Reid, Professor Emeritus.

Qualifications: Undergraduate student enrolled in the honours History program who submits the best paper for courses 49- 447/49-497 Special History Project Seminar I and II on a non-Canadian topic.
Semester: 6, 7, 8.
Amount: $200 annually.

Robb Travel Bursaries

These travel bursaries have been provided in recognition of her love of agriculture, by the estate of Martha Robb, Paris, Ontario. Apply to the Dean, OAC by April 15.

Qualifications: OAC students who are attending another university on a Letter of Permission.
Amount: Travel bursaries (80% of the travel costs will be covered up to $750 per student).

A.M. Ross Prizes in English

Offered by Professor A.M. Ross (funded in part on royalties derived from the OAC Centennial Alumni publication of The College on the Hill).

Qualifications: Students in the 7th semester of the honours English program who have the highest standing in ten or more English courses taken during the first 6 semesters at the University of Guelph. An 80% average in these courses is required.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Two annual awards of $200.

Michael Scotchmer Scholarship

Application is by submission of a portfolio of studio work to the Office of the Chair by November 1.

Qualifications: Fine Art student who is in the intermediate stage of his/her program, i.e. semesters 3 to 6. Applicants must have completed at least 5 studio courses at Guelph, with a 70% average in those courses by the end of the prior Winter semester.
Semester: 3, 4, 5, 6.
Amount: Annual scholarship of up to $600.

Le Prix Leopold Senghor

Donated by the Honorary Consul for Senegal is awarded in 1981-82 and in alternate years. To be awarded in 1996.

Qualifications: Student with good academic standing who has achieved excellence in the study of francophone African literatures, and in particular the literature of Senegal. The recipient will be selected on the basis of performance in the course 44-329 with recommendation from the Chair of French Studies.

Samuel Sidlofsky Scholarship

Offered by friends, colleagues, and former students in recognition of the contributions of Professor Samuel Sidlofsky to the University of Guelph Community over 24 years.

Qualifications: Full-time student graduating at the Spring convocation or to a student who has graduated at the previous Winter or Fall convocation in an honours program in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology with the highest aggregate mark in at least two courses dealing with prejudice, race, ethnicity, discrimination and/or aging.
Amount: $100 scholarship.

J.W. Skinner Honours Scholarship in Social Science

This award is not tenable with College of Social Science or B.A. program Senate Awards.

Qualifications: Student of high academic standing who has completed the 6th semester and is proceeding in a specialized or major honours program in the College of Social Science.
Semester: 6.
Amount: Scholarship of $250.

J.W. Skinner Medal in Social Science

A medal is presented to the College of Social Science nominee for the Winegard Medal.

Semester: 8.
Amount: Medal.

J. Percy Smith Drama Prize
Qualifications: Graduating honours student in Drama with high academic standing in Drama courses, who has also made a worthy contribution to Department of Drama activities in general.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual prize of $200.

Spanish Embassy Prizes
Qualifications: Most outstanding graduating students in Spanish. Academic standing will be used to determine the recipient.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Two annual book prizes.

Nancy Stoten Memorial Scholarship

Provided by the parents, family and friends of Nancy Stoten.

Qualifications: Students enrolled in the French Studies program with fewer than 31 course credits who have completed 44-120, 44-202, 44-206 and 44-252. The student who has achieved the highest average calculated on the grades in the above courses will receive the award.
Amount: $1,000 annual scholarship.

Swiss Embassy Prizes

Offered by the Swiss Consulate.

Qualifications: Outstanding honour students in French, German and Italian at the end of the 8th semester.
Semester: 8.
Amount: Annual book prizes.

C. M. Switzer Scholarships

Awarded as follows:

Qualifications: One to a student who has completed semester 2 of the Diploma in Agriculture program and one to a student who has completed semester 4 of a degree program in OAC. Recipients will have a minimum of 70% standing and have demonstrated outstanding leadership ability in OAC student organizations, class executives and College Royal.
Semester: 4.
Amount: Two scholarships of $2,000.

Michael J.F. Tompkins Scholarship

Offered by his family in memory of Michael Tompkins, Governor General's Medalist 1990. Preference will be given to students who do not hold other Senate awards. The scholarship may be held only once. It is payable after registration in the student's subsequent semester. Essays must be submitted by December 15th to the honours English advisor, together with an application form which is available from the honours English advisor.

Qualifications: Student continuing in the honours English degree program at the University of Guelph who submits the best essay written in a 300 or a 400 level English Literature course.
Amount: Annual scholarship of $1000.

Warner Lambert Printmaking Award

Previous recipients are not eligible.

Qualifications: Student registered in any program who has the highest average in 3 printmaking courses taken in the Department of Fine Art at the University of Guelph.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: $200.

Warner Lambert Printmaking Prize
Qualifications: Students who produce high quality artwork in the printmaking course(s) in which they are enrolled.
Semester: All semesters.
Amount: Two book prizes.

Warner-Lambert Printmaking Scholarship

Application should be made to the Department of Fine Arts before April 1st and no later than one year after graduation.

Qualifications: A graduating B.A. student who has been admitted either to a graduate program in printmaking or to further their study in printmaking at another institution or workshop and who has taken at least 3 printmaking courses in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Guelph. The award will be based on the quality of the artwork with preference being given to a student entering a university graduate program.
Amount: $500

Waterloo-Wellington Chartered Accountants Assn. Award
Qualifications: Student who achieves the highest academic standing in the course 02-333, Intermediate Accounting.
Amount: Annual award of $350.

Donald Webster Memorial Scholarship

Offered by the College of Arts Alumni Association through the Alma Mater Fund. No recipient may receive the award more than once. One award will be made in October and one in February.

Qualifications: Students with a major of General Studies program in the College of Arts who have taken at least twenty out of the twenty-five courses on a part-time basis. The recipients will be selected on the basis of their cumulative average in these twenty-five courses.
Semester: 5.
Amount: Two scholarships of $250.

Beatrice Youngman Prize in Music

The Guelph Music Club has provided this annual award to honour Beatrice Youngman, the driving force of the Guelph Music Club for over twenty years, a former piano teacher, a volunteer and President of the club, and a recognized contributor to music and culture within Guelph. No application required.

Qualifications: A graduating student from the B.A. program in honours Music with the highest overall average above 80%. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to students who have completed 67-351 Applied Music VI with a grade of 80% or higher.
Amount: $75
