Accelerator Guelph is a workshop and mentorship based entrepreneurship support program designed specifically for academics who want to create and grow Agri-Food and Bio-Tech businesses.  Discovery is a fourteen week program which includes:

Is your business idea the Next Big Thing?

Designed by the Research Innovation Office specifically for faculty, grad students and post docs who want to create and grow Agri-Food and Bio-Tech businesses, the Accelerator Guelph program launches in January 2018. The Discovery program is a 14-week pilot program focusing on market feasibility. Discovery offers weekly workshops, mentorship and tools designed specifically for academics with entrepreneurial aspirations.

Participants will learn how to validate business concepts using competitive insight and market research tools to create solid value propositions. Exposure to business management best practices will break the start-up process down into manageable steps that create momentum for start-ups.

  • Cost:  Free!
  • Commitment: 3 to 5 hours per week for 14 weeks
  • Starts week of January 22
  • Applications due by December 1, 2017

Eligibility

Successful candidates should have an interest in entrepreneurship and one or more unique ideas that they would like to test and eventually develop into business concepts. This opportunity is open to faculty, grad students and post docs. 

Participants can be individuals or teams comprised of partners, or owners and employees.

Funding Availability

The Discovery pilot program is 100% funded by the Research Innovation Office. 

Indirect Costs

A minimum commitment of three to five hours per week is required. Please note some weeks or concepts may require more commitment than others. 

Project Duration

January 22 to March 31st 

Successful applicants should try to attend the Accelerator Guelph launch event on December 12, 2017.
