Description

The Advancing Water Technologies (AWT) Program is a new catalyst for business-led collaborations in the water sector. It was created by the Southern Ontario Water Consortium to help Ontario small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) leverage world-class research facilities and academic expertise to develop and demonstrate water technologies for successful introduction to the market. AWT provides financial contributions to industry-led research and development projects in the water sector that will result in the successful commercialization of globally-competitive and market-ready products and services. AWT will support existing industry-academic partnerships and actively encourage and develop new ones.

With funding from the Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science, SOWC is now able to offer subsidies to a limited number of Ontario companies undertaking a technology development project for a technology related to biosolids reduction, resource recovery or energy generation.

Stream 1: Up to two Ontario companies may receive subsidized use of a test bay in the SOWC London or Guelph wastewater pilot facilities for up to six months (until June 30th, 2017). Successful companies must be able to occupy the test bay no later than January 30, 2017.  Interested companies must submit an expression of interest by December 6, 2016.

Stream 2: Up to two Ontario companies that are undertaking an AWT-funded project may receive support of up to $20,000 for costs that would not be eligible expenses under AWT (direct expenses for the company) but that are required to set up or initiate the AWT project.  For example, the cost to build or ship a pilot unit to the site of the AWT project. Up to two companies will be chosen based on eligibility for AWT, and fit with the focus area, with input from an SOWC advisory committee. Interested companies must submit an expression of interest along with an AWT intake form by December 15, 2016. If you have already submitted an AWT intake form, you may simply submit the EOI and reference your intake form.

Eligibility

Any Ontario company with a relevant technology in this focus area (biosolids reduction or the production of energy from wastewater) is eligible.

The AWT Program eligibility criteria and requirements will apply; please refer to the AWT Program Guidelines and the Addendum for large projects (if applicable).

Indirect Costs

No indirect costs are required on the amount requested from the AWT Program. Indirect costs on cash contributions from industry will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

For Stream 2 only: additional facility access fees may apply to applicants utilizing SOWC’s research facilities/infrastructure, located across SOWC’s partner organizations.

Project Duration

All funding awarded in Stream 1 and Stream 2 must be expended by June 30, 2017.  Decisions are discretionary and subject to change.

Deadlines

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.
