BioFuelNet Canada: Call for Expressions of Interest, Agri-Science Cluster (2018-2023)

Updated Information
  • EOI deadline extended to September 29, noon (was September 15, noon)

BioFuelNet Canada (BFN)

Sustainable Agricultural Production Innovation Alliance (SAPIA) cluster

Biofuelnet Canada (BFN) has launched a call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) for our proposal to the Agri-Science Cluster program of Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada (AAFC) later this fall.  The purpose of this new Agri-Science cluster is to engage Canada’s agricultural operators, industry, universities, government and other R&D organizations to sustainably increase food and biomass production, in the context of a changing climate.

This call for EOI is focused on advancing the emerging technologies that will help agricultural producers across Canada sustainably meet the needs of Canada’s and the world’s growing population, and provide the biomass (crop residues, purpose-grown on marginal lands, animal residues) needed by the bioenergy and bioproducts industries.

Project Duration

April 1, 2018 - March 31, 2023

Special Notes

Depending on the activities proposed by the applicants to this EOI, BFN may also decide, through mutual agreement, to include the activities in a proposal to other government funding programs such as the Networks of Centres of Excellence. Please see the following link for program details.

Information and Data Sharing:

  • By submitting an EOI, the applicant is agreeing that BFN may collect, use and share the applicant’s and its partners’ information, for the purpose of evaluating the EOI project and, if the project is selected, including it in BFN’s proposal to the above-mentioned AAFC funding program and, through mutual agreement, any other government funding program.

  • If the EOI project is selected for inclusion in BFN’s proposal to AAFC, applicants must sign a consent form allowing AAFC and BFN to reproduce and distribute the whole or parts of their application for this purpose and for the efficient administration of the cluster (e.g. for communications, record-keeping, reporting, etc.). A condition of participation is that applicants and their partners must agree to share the data collected in activities funded by this cluster.

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.

External Deadline

EOIs must be submitted to the BFN email below by Noon, Eastern Time, September 129 2017.

How to Apply

This is a two-stage application process:

  1. Expressions of Interest (EOI) must be submitted to the BFN by Noon, Eastern Time, September 15, 2017 to the following email address: Researchers are not required to submit their EOI to the Office of Research for approval before submission to the sponsor. Researchers are asked to send a copy of their EOI to the Office of Research for information purposes only (no OR-5 required at the EOI stage).  Researchers will be notified by the sponsor if they are invited to submit a full proposal.

  2. Researchers invited to submit a full proposal must submit their full proposal to the Office of Research two weeks in advance of the sponsor's deadline with a signed OR-5.

Information For Co-applicants

If you need to meet a deadline set by the lead institution for this opportunity, please ensure that you provide the Office of Research with at least five days in advance of the lead institution’s deadline to review the application, or your proposed component of the project. Please be in touch with the Office of Research (contact information below) ahead of the deadline if it looks like it will be difficult for you to submit all the required documentation on time (i.e. budget, proposal, OR-5 Form).
