Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC)

For More Information

The Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) is administering the Request for Proposals (RFPs) for Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC).

For complete program guidelines, please visit the CPRC's webpage which outlines the CFC program details

Description

The Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC) is seeking high quality proposals to carry out a research project addressing the following area: Vaccine development for emerging broiler infectious diseases - the development of vaccines against emerging diseases such as Enterococcus cecorum, necrotic enteritis, metapneumovirus or Inclusion Body Hepatitis.

The poultry industry plays a crucial role in global food production, but it faces significant challenges from emerging infectious diseases that can severely impact animal health, production efficiency, and food safety. Diseases such as Enterococcus cecorum, necrotic enteritis, metapneumovirus, and inclusion body hepatitis are increasingly recognized as significant threats to poultry health. These diseases contribute to high morbidity, mortality and economic losses, particularly in large-scale commercial poultry operations. While conventional treatments and management strategies are often employed, vaccination remains one of the most effective and sustainable approaches to preventing infectious diseases in poultry. New synthetic vaccines that act against viruses and bacteria could also be explored.

Maximum Project Value

Funds for this project are separate to those provided by the Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC).

  • CFC’s contribution to the proposal will be limited to a maximum of $42,000.
  • Industry dollars, whether from CFC or other industry sources, must be matched with non-industry dollars at a ratio of at least 1:1. Funding ratios with higher contributions from non-industry sources are preferred.

The successful applicant will have to confirm that the ethical merit of their proposed research activities has been reviewed and approved by a recognized institutional animal care committee before any funds are disbursed.
