Description

The Terry Fox Research Institute (TFRI), a National Funding Agency, runs an annual competition to support New Investigators to be mentored as part of their funded teams’ activities. The current competition will expand this program to teams funded by TFRI and CIHR Institute of Cancer Reserch (ICR). The goal of the program is to support outstanding New Investigators as they develop their careers as independent research scientists or clinician scientists, to undertake high-quality cancer research, while in close collaboration and mentorship with established TFRI or CIHR-ICR-funded research teams. Support will target high-quality research in all four funding pillars, providing information that may form the basis of innovative cancer prevention, diagnosis and/or treatment across the cancer control continuum.

Recognizing ongoing efforts to harmonize across the tri-agencies, for the purpose of this funding opportunity, ECRs are referred to as New Investigators and defined in line with the TFRI definition, i.e., researchers who are within seven calendar years from the start of their first faculty-level appointment.

Research Areas

This program will support outstanding New Investigators to collaborate, and be mentored by, one or more senior investigators of a currently funded research team. Specifically, the research teams are:

  • CIHR Cancer Control Partnerships in Health Services Improvement (PHSI) Grants
  • CIHR Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) Canada Dream Teams
  • CIHR Large Scale Applied Research Cancer Projects (LSARP)
