Description
A free webinar, "Experts Weigh-In: Why the Whole Food Effect Matters", presented by Dietitians of Canada in partnership with Dairy Farmers of Canada. Participants will hear from renowned Canadian researchers about their latest work examining the whole food effect on cardiometabolic health. Featuring G. Harvey Anderson, PhD (University of Toronto), Vicky Drapeau, PhD, RD (Université Laval) and Benoît Lamarche, PhD (Université Laval).
Dietitians have long provided food-based guidance for healthy eating, and a growing body of evidence supports this approach. The term “food matrix” is used in the food and nutrition science literature to describe how nutrients and other compounds in food behave differently depending on the food's structure or form.
During this webinar, participants will hear from a panel of leading dietitians and nutrition science experts, who will discuss their most recent work examining the whole food effect on cardiometabolic outcomes. This research brings forward new ways of thinking about nutrition guidance, moving from an isolated, nutrient-specific approach to supporting dietitians in a whole-food approach to dietary advice.
A question-and-answer format, moderated by an experienced communications and media expert, will help attendees integrate this evidence and approach into their daily work.
After the webinar participants will:
- Understand the limitations of a nutrient-focused approach versus a whole-food matrix approach to achieving optimal nutrition.
- Explore the role of the food matrix in health outcomes and the possible impact of recent research on future dietary guidance.
- Discover practical strategies for using a whole food approach in daily practice.
