The theme of the 2026 International Prize is TECHNOLOGY AND THE SOCIAL ORGANISATION OF PREHISTORIC HUMAN GROUPS.
The new forms of socio-economic organisation, which emerged during prehistory are closely associated with major technological developments that played a key role in the evolution and dispersal of early human populations. At the human–environment interface, technologies embedded in subsistence, resource management strategies, social networks, mobility patterns and territorial organization of our distant ancestors provide key insights into pivotal stages of their cognitive trajectory.
The prize will be awarded to a researcher whose work has made a significant contribution to our understanding of the interactions between social structure and technology in prehistoric populations.
Eligibility
The candidate must be proposed by a renowned scientific personality.
Prize
The award for the International Prize is 100,000€ (approximately $162k CAD).
