Description
Investment in research is a long-term strategic initiative of the Grain Farmers of Ontario. Their goal is to target the research and innovation investments toward opportunities that will enhance their farmer members’ returns. Please review the 2020 Grain Farmers of Ontario Research Priorities and the Research Project Database outlining current and past Grain Farmers of Ontario research investments.
The purpose of call for Letters of Intent (LOI) is to allow researchers to convey a project concept with an estimated budget so that Grain Farmers of Ontario has the chance to screen project ideas and provide feedback prior to requesting the full proposals for successful LOIs. To be considered for funding by GFO, all project ideas need to be submitted at the LOI stage. If new issues or opportunities arise after the LOI deadline that warrant a rapid research response, GFO may consider these on a case by case basis.
Each year a portion of the GFO $1.8 million research budget is available to fund new projects. For the 2020 call, GFO will be accepting barley, corn, oat, soybean, and wheat project ideas targeting one or more specific priorities within the GFO four broad priority areas as described in the Research Priorities document: Agronomy & Production; Weed, Disease & Insect Pests; Breeding & Genetics; and Crop Utilization & Crop Quality.
GFO strongly encourages partnerships among research institutions and with other funding agencies, where relevant. GFO is happy to discuss linkages with other funding programs.

External Deadline | Applicants must submit the LOI electronically using the template provided on the GFO website as well as attached to this research alert. Those researchers who are invited to full proposal should notify Kristin Gibson in the Office of Research Services. An OR5 form and a copy of the full-proposal will be due to the Office of Research Services one week prior to the deadline established by GFO. Researchers can expect to be notified about the outcome of the LOI in late August. If invited to full proposal, the deadline to submit to GFO will be mid-November. |
