Green Internships Stream Program Information

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) is one of several federal departments participating in the Youth Green Jobs Initiative. At AAFC, the Agricultural Youth Green Jobs Initiative is a part of the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES), to incent employment opportunities and attract youth to green jobs within the agriculture and agri-food sector.

There are two streams under this initiative:

  • Stream A – Green Farms: Farm operators could receive up to a maximum of $10,000 per intern to implement projects that are environmentally beneficial.
  • Stream B – Green Internships: Employers in the agricultural sector but not directly on farm could receive up to a maximum of $16,000 per intern to undertake environmental activities, services or research that will benefit the agriculture sector.

Eligible employers include private businesses, not-for-profit organizations, provincial and municipal governments, associations, boards, councils, and universities. Subsidized employees must be under 30 years of age, have graduated from a college, university or CEGEP, have not previously received funding from Youth Employment Strategy programs, and be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident.  Internships are to be at least 4 months long, ending no later than March 31st, 2019. Not-for-profit organizations may be eligible for government funding of up to 80% on a case-by-case basis.

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.
