Description
Since its inception in 1945, the Medal of Honour has been awarded to remarkable individuals whose research or contributions to public policies supportive of research and development in Canada have achieved international recognition. All recipients have made pivotal contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the health sciences and/or the improvement of therapeutics healthcare.
The award recipient receives $20,000 to donate to the research-based, Canadian academic institution of their choice, along with being presented with the prestigious Medal of Honour at the HRF’s annual awards event.
Eligibility
The HRF Medal of Honour is granted by the Health Research Foundation (HRF) of Innovative Medicines Canada on an annual basis. This award recognizes outstanding individuals whose research and/or contribution to public policies supportive of research and development in Canada have achieved international recognition. Nominees must be Canadian residents whose work/research has been performed in Canada and has made a truly notable or pivotal contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the health sciences, health policy and/or the improvement of therapeutics and healthcare. Recipients can originate from a variety of fields and sectors including patient groups, educators, journalists, industry, and the public and non-profit sectors.
A secondary nominator is required for the nomination to be considered and cannot originate from a current member of the Medal of Honour Committee. Any nomination submitted can be considered for up to two award cycles.
Prize
The $20,000 prize will be invested back into innovative health research at the Canadian academic facility of the recipient’s choice to promote further life sciences research in Canada.

How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online, using the application form provided on the Health Research Foundation Medal of Honour website. Please also submit an OR-5 and a completed application to research.services@uoguelph.ca by the external deadline.
