The Kavli Prize is a partnership between The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, The Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research and The Kavli Foundation.
Description
The Kavli Prize honours scientists for breakthroughs in astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience that transform our understanding of the very big, the very small and the very complex. Since the first awards in 2008, the Kavli Prize has recognized innovative scientific research – from the discovery of CRISPR-Cas9 to the detection of gravitational waves.
The prizes are presented every two years.
The main objective is to award three international prizes for outstanding scientific work in the fields of Astrophysics, Nanoscience, and Neuroscience. The main purposes of the Prizes are to:
- Recognize outstanding scientific research
- Honour highly creative scientists
- Promote public understanding of scientists and their work
- Foster international cooperation among scientists
Eligibility
The nomination process will be open to all who wish to nominate candidates, but self-nominations will not be accepted. The prize can be awarded to a single person or shared (with up to 3 people) for closely related fundamental contributions. Deceased persons cannot be nominated.
