Description

The Ontario Research Excellent Fund (ORF-RE) promotes research excellence of strategic value in Ontario by supporting new leading-edge, transformative, and internationally significant research. The ORF-RE focuses of scientific excellence and strong benefits to Ontarians.

Eligibility

ORF-RE Round 9 has three application streams.

  1. General (open to all disciplines)
  2. Disruptive technology in the clean technology sector
  3. Social sciences, arts and humanities

Funding Availability

ORF-RE provides up to 1/3 of the total value of a project with the remaining 2/3 from a combination of private sector and institutional contributions.

Indirect costs are charged at 40% of the ORF-RE cash contribution and are included in the maximum support provided by the Ministry.  Standard University policies apply to indirect charges on matching funds from partners.

Minimum funding:

  • General stream: $1 million
  • Clean technologies: $1 million
  • Social sciences, arts and humanities: $200,000

Maximum funding:

  • General stream: $4 million
  • Clean technologies: $4 million
  • Social sciences, arts and humanities: $1 million

Faculty Information Session Monday, April 3, 2017Ministry personnel and Office of Research staff will present on current program guidelines and answer questions for all interested faculty applicants.

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.

Internal Deadline

Notify your ADR that you plan to apply (mandatory).

Please submit a complete LOI and OR-5 form as approved by your ADR to resserv@uoguelph.ca. NOIs that have not received advanced approval from your ADR will not be accepted.

External Deadline

The Office of Research will submit all approved NOIs to the Ministry.

Internal Deadline

Please submit your complete application package according to the Program Guide to resserv@uoguelph.ca.

External Deadline

The Office of Research will submit all approved full application packages to the Ministry.
