Description

Batteries are a rapidly growing industry worldwide and are key to advancing clean technologies like electric vehicles and integrating renewable energy onto the electricity grid. Impact Canada wants to help accelerate the most promising made-in-Canada battery innovation from the lab to market. They are looking to unlock the potential in battery technologies to optimize energy density, weight, range, life and costs.

Eligibility

The following candidates can apply:

  • For-profit and not-for-profit organizations such as companies, industry associations and research centres
  • Canadian post-secondary institutions
  • Indigenous organizations and groups

Maximum Project Value

Five finalists will win up to $700K each to develop their innovative battery prototype and pitch their concept to the jury.  

A $1M grand prize will be awarded to scale your innovation.

If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.

Applicants should submit their signed OR-5 form and full application package to research.services@uoguelph.ca.

External Deadline

Applicants should submit their completed application package directly, along with any required supporting documents.

Five finalists will be announced in January 2020. 

How to Apply

Application guide and form will be available the week of July 29, 2019.

There is a three-stage, gated application process for this program:

  1. Application (October 28, 2019)
  2. July 2021 (Prototype submission deadline)
  3. Pitch event (Summer 2021)  

The top five finalists from the Application stage will be announced in January 2021.  The final grand prize winner will be announced in the Fall of 2021.
