NSERC Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering


Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC)


The NSERC Herzberg Medal is awarded for both the sustained excellence and overall influence of a body of work conducted in Canada in the natural sciences or engineering.


Nominators must be Canadian Citizens or permanent residents of Canada.  Self Nominations will not be accepted.

As of the deadline, the nominee must be a scientist or engineer employed at a Canadian University, Canadian federal or provincial government lab or private firm active in Canada whose research is primarily based in the fields of the natural sciences and/or engineering.


Medal and up to $1,000,000 depending on current funding.


If College-level review is required, your College will communicate its earlier internal deadlines.

First draft of nomination package due to Ailsa Fullwood/Laurie Gallinger at stratprg@uoguelph.ca for review and to provide strategic feedback

Internal Deadline

Final nomination package and OR-5 due to Laurie Gallinger at stratprg@uoguelph.ca and research.services@uoguelph.ca.

External Deadline

Nomination package due to NSERC (submission to be completed by ORS on behalf of nominator).
