Sloan Research Fellowship - 2020

Description

The Sloan Research fellowships seeks to stimulate fundamental research by early-career scientists and scholars of outstanding promise. These to-year fellowships are awarded yearly to 126 researchers in recognition of distinguished performance and a unique potential to make substantial contributions to their field.

Eligibility

Candidates must hold a tenure track (or equivalent) position at a college, university, or other degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada.  Tenure track faculty positions at the candidate's institution must include a yearly teaching requirement.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in chemistry, computational or evolutionary molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, ocean sciences, physics, or a related field;

Candidates' most recent Ph.D. (or equivalent) must have been awarded on or after September 1, 2013.  (This date is not yet confirmed)

In order to be considered for a Sloan Research Fellowship, a candidate must have a letter of nomination from a department head or other senior researcher. Submissions unaccompanied by a nomination letter from a senior researcher are not accepted.

Prize

Sloan Research Fellows will receive fellowships in the amount of $70,000.

Internal Deadline

If you wish to be considered for VPR nomination, please submit your Expression of Interest (details below)  to research.honours@uoguelph.ca

External Deadline

If your nomination will be submitted by a nominator other than the VPR, please submit directly to the sponsor by the external deadline. Please also submit a copy of the full nomination and OR-5 to research.services@uoguelph.ca 

How to Apply

The Vice-President (Research) encourages nominations for this prestigious award, and will serve as nominator for those nominees recommended by the Awards Advisory Committee. If you wish to nominate a colleague or to be considered for VPR nomination, please alert your Associate Dean (Research) and submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by the internal deadline. 

An Expression of Interest will include:

  • A draft letter (two-three pages) addressed to the VPR  which outlines how you/your nominee meets the criteria outlined on Sloan Research Fellowships.
  • An up-to-date CV (up to 10 pages) for nominee (and each member of the team, if applicable);

If your nomination will be submitted by a different nominee, and therefore does not require the Vice-President's endorsement, please submit OR-5 and complete nomination by the external deadline.
