Tyler Prize
Description
Established in 1973 by the late John and Alice Tyler, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement is one of the first international premier environmental awards. Recipients encompass the spectrum of environmental concerns, including environmental policy, health, air and water pollution, ecosystem disruption and loss of biodiversity, and energy resources. The fundamental objective of the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement is to recognize outstanding contributions to:
- Protection, maintenance, improvement or understanding of an ecological or an environmental condition
- Discovery, development or improvement of sustainable sources of energy
- Understanding of, or improvements to planetary health and global solutions
Eligibility
Eligibility:
- The Tyler Prize is awarded to individuals and institutions from any part of the world working to deliver global impact for the environment
- All nominations must come from a third party
- Self-nominations are not permitted
- Multiple nominations from a single nominator and posthumous nominations are not permitted

Nominees are expected to:
- Be based on strong science, including natural and/or social sciences
- Demonstrate measurable and scalable impact(s) on policy and/or practice
- Address global inequalities and solutions
- Demonstrate engagement with younger generations

Integrate diverse perspective in environmental policy and practices and the promotion of environmental justice
The Tyler Prize is not awarded:
- To grassroots organizations working to deliver local/regional solutions
- To organizations or individuals whose singular purpose is to raise awareness on an issue
- For the organization of large meetings, summits, or conferences
- Posthumously
Prize
Recipients of the prize are awarded $250,000 USD and presented with a commemorative medallion at an illustrious ceremony to recognize their work.
