Mitacs Elevate Postdoctoral Fellowship

For More Information

Description

Mitacs Elevate is a two-year training program for postdoctoral fellows, in which participants lead and undertake an industrially relevant research project.  During this time, fellows receive experiential training in R&D directly through their industry-academic research collaboration and leadership training and business acumen through the program’s training curriculum. With a suite of skills development workshops and activities unique to Mitacs Elevate, fellows learn about communication, leadership & management and other critical business skills relevant to research management careers in academia and industry. These training opportunities complement fellows’ specialized expertise and ensure they are ready to lead large-scale research projects throughout their careers.

Eligibility

University of Guelph – A limited number of fully funded fellowships are available. However, Mitacs strongly recommends that you confirm the availability of $5,000 per year from your academic supervisor or university before applying. Fellowships will be awarded competitively.

Supervisors and Postdoctoral Fellows – Mitacs Elevate is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and international applicants. The fellow must be based at a university located in the same province as the partner organization for the duration of the fellowship.

Supervisor of the fellow must hold a faculty position at a Canadian University and must be eligible to administer tri-council funds.

Postdoctoral fellows may apply for Mitacs Elevate fellowship if their date of graduation from a PhD program is no more than 5 years prior to the proposed start date the research project.  Fellows who have had a break in their career due to military service, illness, or family leave may be considered as exceptions and must be approved in advance of proposal submission. If this situation applies to you and/or you have any questions, please contact Mitacs at elevate@mitacs.ca. Successful candidates must have fulfilled all degree requirements for their PhD at time of project start date which can be no later than May 2, 2016. Refer to the Mitacs website for more information.

Partner Organizations – New! Effective January 2015, Elevate is open to both for-profit businesses and not-for-profit (NFP) organizations, such as industry associations, charitable organizations, and economic development organizations. Please contact Mitacs to discuss the eligibility of an NFP organization. Please ensure a pre-assessment form is submitted to elevate@mitacs.ca before submission of the completed application package.
