Description

Mitacs has partnered with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR), Tunisia, to support student mobility between Canadian universities and Tunisian Universities. The Mitacs Globalink Research Award – MHESR Tunisia is an exciting new competitive initiative that provides the opportunity for faculty members and senior undergraduate and graduate students at Canadian universities to build an international research network and undertake research abroad at Tunisian universities. Student recipients of the Globalink Research Award – MHESR Tunisia will develop research skills, cultural fluency, and a professional network, becoming part of Canada’s generation of global innovators.

Eligibility

All disciplines. Senior undergraduate and graduate students, and must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or international student. Students must be registered for full-time senior undergraduate or graduate (master’s or PhD) studies at Canadian university and remain as such during of the award. Students must also identify a faculty member at their home university to supervise the project and administer the funds.  They must also identify a host academic supervisor who is a recognized faculty member at an accredited university in Tunisia. Undergraduate students must have completed their second year of studies prior to departure, be enrolled in full-time studies and remain as such throughout the duration of the award. Students must also maintain a B average or equivalent thereof for the last two semesters of study. Students are eligible to receive only one Mitacs Globalink Research Award per academic lifetime. 

Funding Availability

Mitacs and MHESR will provide a $7,000 research award to support student travel expenses, research related expenses and student stipend. 

Project Duration

12 to 24 weeks abroad; Projects can start as early as February 2016 and as late as December 31, 2016.

Special Notes

Travel to the destination prior to the approval of the award is not permitted and Mitacs and MHESR are not responsible for any costs incurred before the application is approved. Travel may not be initiated until Mitacs has received all paperwork including the International Pre-departure form, Mitacs Student Code of Conduct and Ethics Form, and the application has been approved.

Internal Deadline

Applicant submits a signed OR-5 form (supervisor) along with the complete application (including signature page signed by intern and host supervisor, and student CV, and letters of support) to: Research.Services@uoguelph.ca

External Deadline

Applicant submits complete application by email as a PDF document to:  at apply(at)mitacs.ca with “[Student first and last name] _GRA-MHESR Tunisia. ”NOTE: only the signature page of the proposal should be saved as a scanned PDF. Individual PDF files should be less than 2MB.   

How to Apply

Students who have identified a faculty member to supervise the research project and assist them in developing a research plan in partnerships with an academic supervisor at a host institution.  Student and their home university supervisor submit the application directly to Mitacs.
