Description

Mitacs has partnered with India’s Ministry of Human Resources Development to offer the Globalink Research Award – MHRD India, which supports Canadian student travel to India for research collaborations.    

Eligibility

Senior undergrads and graduate students in Canada. Students must be registered for full-time senior undergraduate or graduate (master’s or PhD) studies at Canadian university and remain as such during the Globalink Research Awards – MHRD India. Students must also identify a recognized faculty member at one of the seven eligible IIT institutions (Bombay, Guwahati, Hyderbad, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Gandhinagar or Roorkee) and meet all necessary travel requirements for the intended destination. The home supervisor must be a faculty member at a Canadian university who is eligible to supervise graduate students and can hold Tri-Council funding. Students are eligible to receive only one Mitacs Globalink Research Award  per academic lifetime. 

Funding Availability

Successful applicants receive $5,000 for travel related expenses including return airfare, visa reimbursement and health/medical insurance.  MHRD will provide a local grant equivalent of $5,000 CAD to cover accommodation, research, and local expenses associated with the research project. 

Project Duration

12 weeks; Projects can start as early as February 2016 and as late as December 31, 2016.

Special Notes

Travel to the destination prior to the approval of the award is not permitted and Mitacs and MHRD are not responsible for any costs incurred before the application is approved. Travel may not be initiated until Mitacs has received all paperwork including the International Pre-departure form, Mitacs Student Code of Conduct and Ethics Form, and the application has been approved.

Internal Deadline

Applicant submits a signed OR-5 form (supervisor) along with the complete application (including signature page signed by intern and host supervisor, and student CV, and letters of support) to: Research.Services@uoguelph.ca

External Deadline

Applicant submits complete application by email as a PDF document to:  at apply(at)mitacs.ca with “[Student first and last name] _GRA-MHRD. ”NOTE: only the signature page of the proposal should be saved as a scanned PDF. Individual PDF files should be less than 2MB.   

How to Apply

Graduate students who have an identified research project and a host supervisor at one of the eligible seven IITs listed above must submit a complete application directly to Mitacs. The International pre-departure Form and Mitacs Student Code of Conduct and an Ethics form can be submitted after the submission of the application; however, funds will not be released until Mitacs receives these forms.
