Description

The Agricultural Greenhouse Gases Program (AGGP) supports efforts to mitigate agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide by promoting environmentally responsible agriculture and support the development of approaches and tools that more effectively and efficiently assist the agriculture sector and its partners in mitigating GHG.  The focus is on 4 priority areas:

  1. Livestock systems
  2. Cropping Systems
  3. Agricultural water use efficiency
  4. Agroforesty

Academic institutions are eligible to apply

Funding Availability

AGGP is a $27million, five year (2016-2021) program.  

Maximum Project Value

The maximum funding available for a project under AGGP will normally not exceed $2 million.  This is a cost sharing program with the maximum level of government funding (combined federal, provincial and municipal) not to exceed 85%* of eligible costs per project and 10% max in-kind**.

*You may submit any cost sharing ratio between AAFC and the matching funds provided the AAFC portion never exceeds 85% of the total budget.

**In-kind may not exceed 10% of the total project budget.  

Indirect Costs

0%*

*AAFC does not allow indirect costs. 

AAFC does allow 8% on the total budget costs for administration.  Please include a budget line item entitled “Administration Costs” of 8%.  The 8% must be included within the $2M funding cap.  

Project Duration

Up to five years; the program ends March 31, 2021.

How to Apply

Please see the AAFC contact information below to obtain your Project Application Form, the AGGP supplemental questionnaire, a Project Work Plan and Budget template along with the necessary instructions.

A complete hard copy application package consists of a completed AAFC Application Form, a Project Work Plan, a Budget, the AGGP supplemental questionnaire, and such additional supporting documentation (listed in section 3.1.3 of the Applicant Guide)required by the program to fully assess the project’s merit to be funded.

Once a signed Or-5 is returned to the researchers, the researcher must submit the application directly to AAFC either via email:  AGGP-PLGESA@AGR.GC.CA or mailed to the following address:
