Target Areas

Description

Strategic Partnership Grants for Projects (SPG-P) fund early-stage project research, and the goal is to increase research and training in the target areas (see link below) (Advanced Manufacturing; Environment and Agriculture (NEW*), Information and Communications Technologies; Natural Resources and Energy) that could strongly enhance Canada’s economy, society and/or environment within the next 10 years.

 It is expected that these grants will:

  • Generate new knowledge/technology with strong potential to strengthen Canada’s industrial base, generate wealth, create employment and/or influence Canadian public policy;
  • Increase the number of highly qualified personnel in the specific target areas; and
  • Enable the transfer of knowledge/technology and expertise to Canadian-based companies that are well-positioned to apply the results for economic gain or to government organizations to strengthen public policy

Eligibility

Please refer to NSERC’s overall eligibility criteria.  Faculty must hold a minimum three-year appointment (fulltime, contract or adjunct) in an academic position with a firm offer in writing at the time of application. If you hold an adjunct or contractually limited appointment, please ensure that the dates in your application under “Eligibility Profile” match the dates of your official appointment letter. Academic researchers outside of NSE may participate as co-applicants if they meet NSERC’s eligibility criteria with respect to type, duration and nature of appointment.

Funding Availability

The competition budget is expected to be $12 million for Year 1 of the projects, which could fund about 15 – 18 new awards in each target area.  The overall success rate is expected to be 25%.
