Full Name
Angela Spenceley

Where did you go to school?
I received my honours BA in Political Science and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Waterloo in 1990.

Tell us about your work history.
I worked in disability claims for several large insurance companies for 10 years.  I received IT training before transitioning to a smaller, but rapidly growing organization where I worked with desktop support.  I then took a position with GE in the IT field where I helped develop the support organization unit for clients.

When did you join CCS?
I have worked in the Storage and Backup cluster for two and a half years.

What aspects of CCS do you appreciate?
I respect the team spirit everyone displays; from a social perspective, employees get along very well.  I’m also challenged technically and I have the opportunity to grow professionally in my position.

How does a university environment differ from a corporate environment?
I chose to work at the University of Guelph because it offered opportunities both professionally and personally.  The people I work with in CCS are more caring and don’t simply focus on the bottom line.  In general, I enjoy knowing the fact that the University services the community and I am a part of that role.

What else are you involved with on campus?
I am a member of the Events Committee for CCS.  We seem to have a great turnout every summer at the barbeque and baseball tournament and we hope to plan more events in the near future.  I am also vice chair of ITSAC (Information Technology Student Advisory Committee), a group that gives student representatives from various colleges the chance to discuss IT initiatives.

What do you do in your free time?
I have played women’s flag football for over 15 years and I currently play on a recreational league.  I also play recreational softball.  My husband and I just bought a farm north of Guelph and we have been busy repairing the barns.  We hope to buy horses in the near future.

Do you enjoy reading?
When I have spare time, I enjoy reading novels by Stephen King and Ken Follett, author of Pillars of the Earth.

What is an original talent you possess?
Not sure it is original, but I think I have a talent for organizing whether it be people, activities or things.
