February 05, 2007 - Campus Bulletin

U of G will host the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Swimming Championships February 9 to 11 at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Centre.

The three-day event will be the first OUA Swimming Championship ever hosted by U of G. More than 350 of the province’s top male and female collegiate swimmers will attend the event. U of G will be vying for its first
championship team title when competition gets underway on Friday. Preliminaries begin each day at 9:30 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m. except for Sunday when finals will start at 4 p.m.

“We’re extremely excited about the championship,” said Jeff Slater, Gryphons swimming head coach. “Being at home will bring a new and exciting element to the event for us. It’s a great opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd and our pool has always been deemed to be one of the fastest pools in the country so we’re expecting a terrific showcase of talent and competition.”

The Gryphon’s team will feature four returning OUA Gold medalists at this year’s championships including Alyssa Hubert, Amanda Budd, Scott VanDoormaal and John Pilon.

More information and a schedule of events is available online.

Up-to-the-minute results of the championships will also be online all three days of the competition.
