The University of Guelph today announced the appointment of Steven Liss as associate vice-president (research services), effective July 1. Liss is currently associate dean for research, development and science programs in the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Science at Ryerson University in Toronto.

At Ryerson, he has played a leading role in developing research and educational programs and has been a strong advocate of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary activities across the university.

In his own discipline as a professor of applied chemical and biological sciences, Liss has led a strong research program in microbiology and environmental sciences.

In his new role in the Office of Research at Guelph, he will be working closely with people in all seven colleges to help advance discovery and creative pursuits.

"I am delighted that Steven has agreed to join us,” said Alan Wildeman, vice-president (research). "He is very committed to enhancing the ability of the Office of Research to provide services and support to all scholars, and to working with all staff in the office to support them in their varied roles of facilitating research across all of our campuses.”

Wildeman also expressed his deep appreciation for the leadership efforts of Anthony Clarke, who has served for the past two years in an acting capacity as associate vice-president (research services). He will be returning to his position of assistant vice-president (academic).
