Call for Winegard Award Nominations

February 21, 2008 - News Release

The University and Guelph communities are calling for nominations for the second annual Dr. William Winegard Exemplary Volunteer Involvement Awards.

Named in honour of former U of G president Bill Winegard, these awards were created in partnership with the United Way and the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington last year to recognize the volunteer involvement of members of the University community and to reward those who have made extraordinary contributions and inspired others through their involvement.

"The general spirit of generosity of the U of G is well known, but the invaluable contributions of individuals are sometimes overlooked," said Cathy Taylor, executive director of the Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington. "These awards give us the opportunity to recognize the students, staff and faculty members whose volunteerism significantly contributes to the wellbeing of our community."

Nominators can be peers, colleagues, supervisors or organizations that benefit from the volunteer efforts of the nominee. Nominees can be staff, faculty or students who have devoted significant time and effort through volunteer involvement with community organizations, including municipal boards, community fundraising, community social health and service agencies, and other non-profit organizations.

Nomination packages are available online and can be mailed to Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington or submitted by e-mail to admin@volunteerguelphwellington.on.ca. Packages should be submitted by March 27.

Awards will be presented during a ceremony on April 4, and each winner will be recognized with an award created by a fine art student.
