Update on CUPE 1334 Negotiations

February 19, 2008 - Campus Bulletin

This bulletin is intended to update the U of G community on the talks between the University and CUPE 1334, the union that represents 267 trades, custodial and maintenance workers on campus.

The University is currently negotiating a new collective agreement with the union. Negotiations began in the spring and since that time, the parties have made progress on many outstanding issues.

The parties last met with a conciliator on Friday, Feb. 15. The parties were unable to reach an agreement and as a result, employees represented by CUPE 1334 could be in a legal strike position as of March 8.

However, the parties have agreed to continue negotiations with the assistance of a mediator on March 7. The University is encouraged by the union’s commitment to continue discussions and we remain dedicated to successfully negotiating a fair settlement.

We will communicate with the community on a regular basis to ensure that you remain informed. In the interim, we ask for your patience and understanding.
