August 20, 2008 - News Release

The University of Guelph has appointed Kathy Hay as its new associate vice-president (advancement) effective Oct. 1.

The announcement was made today by Joanne Shoveller, vice-president (alumni affairs and development). "Kathy brings broad experience, energy, passion and a deep commitment to the vision of the University of Guelph that will lead our advancement team to great success," she said.

Hay has been the executive director of advancement at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) since 2003, leading the advancement team to the successful completion of a $160-million campaign for capital expansion. A member of both U of T's senior advancement and UTM's senior leadership teams, she is responsible for fund development, external/internal relationships and advocacy, alumni development, and marketing and communications.

Under Hay's leadership, UTM increased its overall fundraising results 40-fold, created and implemented the first community-engaged capital campaign, and produced successful alumni engagement and community events for 40th-anniversary celebrations at the Mississauga campus.

She previously worked as a senior development officer (major gifts) at UTM, director of development for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel, and director of development of Families and Children Experiencing AIDS. She was the volunteer president of the Canadian Foundation in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and is active in the United Way of Peel Region and the Mississauga Community Advisory Council.

“I look forward to welcoming Kathy to our community and having her utilize her extensive experience and enthusiasm to build a new level of support for the University's vision to Change Lives and Improve Life," Shoveller said.
