U of G Hosts Alumni Weekend 2010

June 11, 2010 - News Release

"Students for a short time...alumni for life!" is the theme of Alumni Weekend 2010 running June 18 and 19. The University of Guelph will welcome more than 1,000 guests back to campus during the two-day event.

"This year's theme certainly rings true for many of us," said Robbie Keith, this year’s honorary chair and a 1960 OAC graduate. “We all share so many fond recollections of our days at U of G. Alumni Weekend is a great time to reconnect with friends and rekindle some of those wonderful memories and to celebrate our alma mater and its importance in our lives.”

Alumni Weekend festivities begin June 18 with a gathering at Alumni House from 2 to 5 p.m. Other activities that day include a farewell reception for CSAHS dean Alun Joseph and a 9 p.m. star party at the MacNaughton Observatory, which will include a brief talk and a tour of the night sky in the observatory.

Many events are planned for June 19, including tours of the campus and various buildings such as the President’s house. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Arboretum will hold an open house in celebration of its 40th anniversary.

At noon, the annual President’s Lunch will be held in Peter Clark Hall. The luncheon pays tribute to alumni celebrating their 50-year anniversary.

Campus tours will also be held throughout the day, and a number of alumni associations will hold annual general meetings.

All alumni and guests are invited to an alumni reception beginning at 6 p.m. in Creelman Hall with dinner at 7 p.m. Grads can dance the night away to hits from the 1980s at the Bull Ring starting at 9 p.m.

Besides the campus-wide events, almost 30 class reunions are scheduled for the weekend, including the 50th reunion for the Class of 1960 and the 25th reunion for the Class of 1985.
