U of G Celebrates Homecoming 2010

September 20, 2010 - News Release

Gryphon football alumni celebrating their 50th anniversary will be part of the University of Guelph's Homecoming 2010 festivities Sept. 25. The theme of this year's event is "My Team, My Spirit, Our Homecoming!"

Members of the 1960 football squad will be introduced and participate in a ceremonial coin toss before this year’s Gryphon football team faces the University of Western Ontario at Alumni Stadium at 1 p.m.

Pre-game and half-time shows will feature performances by Toast and Jam. All Guelph graduates are invited to attend a post-game reception at the Brass Taps at 4 p.m.

The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with the Glory Bowl, where alumni football payers will battle it out on the new varsity field.

U of G will also hold several reunions during Homecoming, as follows:

The annual women’s basketball alumni reunion begins at 10 a.m. with a scrimmage in the main gym of the Athletics Centre.

The School of Engineering will hold a reunion at 10 a.m. in Thornbrough 1307, followed by historical and hard-hat tours of the building and the current construction project. Alumni can buy tickets to the reunion dinner, to be held at 6 p.m. at the University Club.

The bachelor of commerce marketing management networking and social reunion begins at 11 a.m. at the Bullring.

The School of Languages and Literatures will host an alumni reunion on the second floor of the Macdonald Stewart Art Centre from 5 to 7 p.m.

Members of the Vanier Cup championship team, who celebrated their 25th anniversary last year, are invited to keep the spirit alive this year with a pre-game warm-up in parking lot P7 at 11 a.m. Gryphons 2000 are invited to that gathering to celebrate their 10th anniversary with other former varsity athletes.
