Make a Video, Win an iPad

January 28, 2011 - Campus Bulletin

Create a video promoting the University of Guelph's summer semester and you could win an iPad.

The University is looking for three-minute videos about why it's so great to take classes in the summer.

"We want to create awareness that the summer semester exists," said Angi Gallupe, information services manager with Admission Services. “Everyone thinks the University closes at the end of May. We want people to know we operate 12 months a year and thought a video contest would be a cool way of spreading that message.”

Enrolling in the summer semester has its benefits, added Gallupe.

“You still have access to all the same facilities that you do during the fall and winter, but you are sharing it with a smaller population,” she said. “The city of Guelph is also a great place to be in summer because of the many arts and music festivals that are held during this time of year. We are hoping the videos will depict some of these perks.”

The contest is open to anyone, and the deadline for submissions is Feb. 28. Video entries must be no longer than three minutes.

The top videos will be posted at YouTube.com/uofgsummercontest. Viewers can vote for their favourites between March 4 and 14. The video with the most "likes" wins.

“We are really hoping to engage the whole University of Guelph community through this contest,” said Gallupe.

Winners will be announced March 16.

The winning entrant will receive an iPad or a $500 gift certificate for Future Shop. Second place wins either a Kobo eReader along with a $50 Chapters gift certificate or a $250 Chapters gift certificate.
