U of G Celebrates Homecoming 2011

“Class of 1961” Gryphon football alumni will celebrate their 50th anniversary this year among the University of Guelph’s Homecoming 2011 events Sept. 24. Tickets to the 1 p.m. homecoming football game at Alumni Stadium are sold out.
“Homecoming is one of the most exciting times at the University," said Sam Kosakowski, alumni affairs manager and chair of Homecoming 2011. "It’s so much fun; the fact that the 8,000 or more tickets to the game sold out a week in advance is a testament to that. This year we’re highlighting the last decade of Redmen football.”
Members of the 1961 football squad will take part in a ceremonial coin toss by former coach Tom Mooney before this year’s Gryphon football team faces the McMaster Marauders.
Bill Graham, coach from 1962 to 1965, and U of G president Alastair Summerlee will attend the event.
Pre-game and half-time shows will feature performances by Toast and Jam. All Guelph graduates may attend a post-game celebration at the Brass Taps starting at 4 p.m.
Several reunions will be held Sept. 24, as follows:
• College of Biological Science, disc golf, U of G Arboretum, 9 a.m.
• School of Engineering annual general meeting, 10 a.m., followed by a facility tour
• Department of Chemistry alumni brunch and seminar, science complex atrium, 10:30 a.m., followed by science complex tours
• School of Languages and Literatures, Alumni House atrium, 5 p.m. Registration closes Sept. 22, 4 p.m. To register for this reunion, send an email to eventsrsvp@uoguelph.ca.
A banquet honouring the final decade of Redmen football (1956-1965) and the 1961 Redmen team will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. Scholarships named for Mooney and the 1961-1964 Redmen will be awarded.
