Two University of Guelph professors were featured today by CBC online news.

Al Weersink of the Department of Food, Agricultural & Resource Economics was interviewed for a story on rising food prices. Weersink’s research focuses on the effects of technology and government policy, particularly environmental policy; on decisions made by firms in the agri-food sector; and on the resulting structure of the sector. He was raised on a cash crop/dairy farm near St. Marys and continues to be involved with the farm.

Sylvain Charlebois
, associate dean of research and graduate studies in the College of Management and Economics, was quoted in a story how the number of recalls involving possibly deadly food products has increased over the past two years. Charlebois is an expert in food distribution and safety and is currently writing a book on global food safety systems. He belongs to the national expert advisory committee of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. This week, he testified before the House of Commons standing committee on agriculture and agri-food about the federal strategic framework for agriculture and food. Read more
