Some U of G integrative biologists have been making headlines recently for two research projects on bird songs and ecosystem breakdown.

Profs. Ryan Norris and Amy Newman were featured in the Toronto Star Friday.They recently published a study that found Savannah sparrows sing distinctly different songs today than did their ancestors 30 years ago – changes passed along generation to generation. Their study included analyzing more than three decades' worth of sparrow recordings. Read more

A study by Profs. Andrew MacDougall and Kevin McCann, and graduate student Gabriel Gellner, has also been in the news. Their research paper warning about the perils of ecosystem breakdown was the cover story in the Feb. 7 issue of Nature. It also was reported by CBC and the Vancouver Sun, among others.
