Objectives: This course is intended to introduce students with no previous knowledge of Spanish  to speaking, understanding, reading and writing Spanish.

Credit weight: 0.5.

Prerequisites: None.  Students who have previous knowledge of Spanish through high school courses, living in Spanish-speaking countries or experience of a Spanish-speaking family or workplace, cannot take this course. Any student with previous experience of Spanish must consult the instructor and register in the course appropriate to their level of preparation.

Learning Outcomes: After completing this course, the diligent student will be able to:

--communicate in basic Spanish;

--read, understand and comment on basic texts in Spanish;

--write in Spanish about everyday life and personal preferences;

--identify cultural traits of the Spanish-speaking world.
